Educational Qualification 

Bachelors Requirement: Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institute. The degree should be in the relevant field of the subject for which a candidate intends to opt for an IIT JAM subject. 

Minimum marks or CGPA: In minimum aggregate marks- General /OBC-NCL/EWS- at least 55% or 5.5 on a 10-point scale. For SC/ST/PwD at least 50% or 5.0 on a 10-point scale. 

The candidate must ensure that his qualifying degree includes all prescribed coursework and academic requirements. 

Final Year Students: Students in the final year of their undergraduate program are eligible to apply, provided they can furnish proof of qualification (degree certificate or mark sheets) by the specified deadline, usually around September of the exam year. 

 

Subject-Specific Eligibility 

The IIT JAM exam has seven subjects: 

  • Biotechnology (BT) 

  • Chemistry (CY) 

  • Economics (EN) 

  • Geology (GG) 

  • Mathematics (MA) 

  • Mathematical Statistics (MS) 

  • Physics (PH) 

Applicants must ensure that their bachelor's degree subject satisfies the eligibility criteria for the selected IIT JAM paper. For example, candidates who want to take the Physics paper must have had core courses in Physics as part of their undergraduate program. 

  

Nationality and Age Criteria 

Nationality: 

  • Indian and foreign nationals are eligible to apply for IIT JAM 2025.
