You can ride a small moped or scooter that has L plates, or take the new AM licence that will enable you to ride up to 50cc bikes with a maximum speed of 45mph. After passing the theory test you will be required to pass a driving exam on both private and public roads. Once you have passed both tests, you will receive a request for a driving license. You must present this request to the local authority within three years of passing your practical test.

After passing your driving test, it is possible to begin driving vehicles that fall in the category of A2. In certain countries, if held an A1 licence for two years, you do not have to take an additional driving test in order to get a category A2 license that permits you to drive motorbikes with up to 35 kW. This lets you get familiar with less powerful two-wheelers before upgrading to more powerful machines.

If you hold a driving licence of category A2, you can use a tricycle so long as it has the capacity of 125cc, and an output power of 11 kW. This category was prior to the A licence. Motor vehicles with five or more wheels

This category includes power-driven vehicles designed to be used on a road and are used for the transportation of passengers or goods. They must have at the very least two or three wheels that are in contact with the ground and a saddle or seat for the driver and passenger and the ability to produce speeds of 20 miles per hour or more. In addition to the categories above, you may also be granted a driving license for other vehicles that have special requirements. For example, you need an exclusive license to drive a large goods vehicle, which is classified as a category C. This requires knowledge of special regulations for the transportation of dangerous products.

A car driving licence in category B permits you to drive a combination of an automobile and trailer that doesn't meet the requirements of category C. This is where the code 96 is used.
